For those that love Thanksgiving, but prefer to relax with the family and leave the cooking to the professionals, join us at our annual Thanksgiving Champagne Buffet on Thursday, November 25.
Our culinary team has created a special Thanksgiving menu full of traditional, seasonal delights including Rotisserie Turkey, Roasted Prime Rib, and Bone-In Southern Cured Ham served with side dishes such as White Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes and Maple Butternut Squash. You will also enjoy made-to-order omelets, Belgian Waffles, Eggs Benedict and a variety of other traditional breakfast favorites. Seatings start at 1 p.m. Pricing is $52 per adult, $22 for children 6-12, $15 for children 2-5, and children under 2 are free; pricing excludes tax and gratuity. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Woodlands Resort at (281) 364-6292.
Things you will need:
• 1 bar of semi-sweet baking chocolate
• 1 tablespoon of vegetable shortening (Crisco)
• Microwave-safe bowl
• Metal cookie sheet
• Flat spatula
• Sharp-edged spatula
1. Place three squares of chocolate and one tablespoon of shortening into a microwave-safe bowl.
2. Place the bowl into the microwave and heat on high 30 to 45 seconds, or until the shortening is melted.
3. Remove from the microwave and stir with a fork until the chocolate and shortening are thoroughly combined.
4. Take your metal cookie sheet and turn it upside down. Pour your melted chocolate on top.
5. Using a flat spatula, spread the chocolate out on the sheet in an extremely thin layer.
6. Place the chocolate-covered cookie sheet in the freezer and let set for about two minutes. You know it’s ready when you press on it with your finger and it leaves a slight fingermark, but not a depression.
7. Use a sharp-edged spatula and begin to scrape the chocolate from the bottom of the pan. When the chocolate is just the right temperature, it will curl instead of break. If it’s too hard, let it set out a minute to soften/warmup.
8. Throughout the scraping process, if the chocolate gets too hard, give it a minute, and then try again. If it gets too soft, stick it back in the freezer for a minute.
And voila! You’ll have a bunch of fancy little chocolate curls!
Note: Transfer the curls to a cold pan or plate as son as possible and stick them in the freezer to harden. You can prepare these ahead of time too and store them in the freezer in a plastic bag until you need them.
The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center has been recognized by ConventionSouth Magazine as one of the “South’s Top 18 Golf Retreats For Groups.”
ConventionSouth’s editorial team researched golf retreats throughout the South and selected 18 of the best sites for golfing and meetings based on golf course accolades and golf club amenities for groups, affordability, accessibility, and the amount of on-site or neighboring meeting venues and accommodations for groups. The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center was one of only two resorts recognized in Texas.
“As the only Houston-area resort and conference center with two on-property golf courses, we are proud to be listed among some of the greatest golf resorts in the nation,” said Greg Parsons, General Manager and Vice President of Hospitality at the Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. “Meeting planners love that they can provide their attendees with a championship golf experience in addition to a host of other amenities at the resort. Once our $60-million expansion and renovation of the property is complete, we will have even more to offer including a new guest room wing, a 1,000-foot lazy river and a high-end Texas steakhouse restaurant. The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center provides a world-class luxury experience for golf enthusiasts, whether they are here for business or leisure.”
ConventionSouth Magazine will feature the South’s Top 18 Golf Retreats For Groups in its November 2013 issue.

About a month ago, we were approached by the founders of Blog Elevated and offered the chance to attend and sponsor their first ever blogger conference in Houston. We jumped at the chance and this past weekend we had a blast meeting 250+ bloggers from all across the country. We talked some, ate some, learned some, and then ate some more. Puffy the Pinecone even made an appearance and hammed it up for the cameras at the Friday night party. A fun time was had by all.
As part of the sponsorship we hosted a pre-conference essay contest. To enter, Blog Elevated attendees created an original blog post titled “Why I Need a Staycation.” In the essay, they made their cases for why they deserved to win a getaway at The Woodlands Resort.
We received eight entries. They ranged from seriously heartfelt to seriously humorous. You can read each one below.
Lauren Martinez of Method to My Madness
We reviewed each entry – and then read through them at least 2 more times after that. Even after the third and fourth read, we still couldn’t pick a winner because they all make such compelling cases. In the end we decided to award all eight bloggers with one Family of 4 Fun Package each including:
• One Night Deluxe Accommodations
• Full breakfast for 4 in The Woodlands Dining Room
• Half Day Bicycle Rental for 4
• Family Welcome Cookie
• Unlimited access to Sauna, Steam Room, Whirlpool, Fitness Center
• Unlimited access to Forest Oasis Waterscape
Congratulations to all of our winners and we will look forwarding to seeing you on property soon.

Making the most out of business travel this summer can be a great way to expand on your summer travels while saving a little money, too! If you’re heading to a conference, meeting or event with us this summer, we invite you to stay and play!
During summer at the resort, the trees are green, our pools are cold, the drinks are fruity and the temperatures are soaring. The combination of it all makes for a wonderful escape that feels a lot like an island vacation. So why not add a few days to your stay before or after your work obligations? Invite your family or friends and enjoy our summer fun.
Tagging on to the weekend before or after a business trip is a great way to save on vacation days and the expense of travel since you are already here. And with so many places in The Woodlands to explore, experience and eat, there will be plenty to fill your days to the max.
While you may not have time during a conference to play a couple rounds of golf or enjoy a spa treatment, when your time is all yours, you call the shots on your itinerary! Hopefully, the R&R at the resort will be just the boost you need to start off the next week in your office fully recharged.
What are your travel plans this summer?
