We Couldn’t Have Said It Better!

We love seeing what you have to say about us, so when we came across Ata-Girl’s blog, her take on a recent resort experience made us really smile.

Like many of our guests, she was surprised at how the resort is so accessible from downtown Houston, yet it feels completely secluded. Even though she was visiting with three children in tow and her sister, she couldn’t help but notice what a picturesque setting the resort would be for a wedding. And we agree!

See what expert photographer Ata-Girl had to say here.

What do you look for in a wedding venue?

They Love Him WATTs!

They Love Him WATTs! Blog Entry Image

It’s not every day you get married, and it’s not every day you get to meet your favorite sports star. But for a newly wedded couple, these two dream occasions came true thanks to a big-hearted gesture by Texans star defensive player, JJ Watt.

The Poe’s, who celebrated their wedding at The Woodlands Resort, were enamored by their groom’s cake designed to look like JJ Watt’s number 99 Texans jersey, and with just one tweet, a photo of the specialty cake went viral. The photo caught the attention of Watt himself. Watt learned Nathan Poe worked on a rig in the Gulf so he decided to tape a message with Nathan’s wife to thank Poe for including him in their special day.

According to KTRK-TV, Watt’s message says, “I'm here with your new wife and I just want to say congratulations and thank you so much for including me. People sent me the pictures and I was very touched and I was happy I could be a part of your wedding. So I'm sorry I missed you. I hope all is well and I can't wait until you return home safely back to your new wife.”

Our Take On Cakes: Wedding Trends 2013

Our Take On Cakes: Wedding Trends 2013 Blog Entry Image

Choosing the perfect cake can be a daunting task. And while Pinterest is great for researching, it can be a bit overwhelming with so many beautiful cakes from which to choose. Wedding cake trends tend to follow fashion, so check out the gallery of images below because what you enjoy wearing just might be something you’ll enjoy eating, too!

Lace
Lace has and always will be a wedding staple but when used on a cake, it can turn simple white into a delicate, feminine and an overall sweet cake, inside and out.

Mint
Wedding experts agree mint is the color for 2013. But the color doesn’t have to be relegated to bridesmaids dresses and flowers; using this pale shade of jade green on your cake will truly give you a one-of-a-kind look. And you can take this a step further and incorporate the flavor of mint into the cake (i.e. chocolate mint, peppermint vanilla).

Birds
A cake for two lovebirds! Birds have been making their way into weddings recently in subtle ways – feathers in the hair and birdcages used for floral décor. But now they’re flying onto wedding cakes. The bird theme can be used minimally or literally (as pictured in gallery).

Hand Painted
Another emerging wedding cake trend that requires a higher-than-average skills set is a hand-painted cake. These amazing creations are almost too beautiful to eat and can be completely customized to your style and wedding colors.

Ombre
This dark-to-light color scheme has been popular on the runways for years. Incorporating this monochromatic rainbow look to your wedding cake can be a fun and unique way to build off your wedding color palate.

Now you tell us, which of these trends do you love most? Would you use any of them for your wedding?

Hot Air Balloon Inspired Wedding

Hot Air Balloon Inspired Wedding Blog Entry Image

The Woodlands Resort was the backdrop for a fun, Hot Air Balloon-inspired wedding style session. Put together by Woodlands Bride, Pam Sparks of En Vogue Events and the ladies from A Style Collective, all the lovely details were inspired by hot air balloons and the Spring 2013 Colors.

The sparkly details really make this cake!

Seeing Purple

Just like the women planning their special day, no two weddings are alike. Take these two distinctly different weddings where purple is the prevalent color from the bride's bouquet to the bridesmaid dresses.

Bachelorette Party Ideas

Bachelorette Party Ideas Blog Entry Image

Last month we wrote about men gone mild … refined bachelor parties for the guys. Now it’s time for the ladies to celebrate the last days of singlehood before sending your best gal pal into wedded bliss.

You know what they say, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Start the girly festivities at Hubbell & Hudson’s Viking Cooking School where you can learn everything from how to make sushi rolls to baking the perfect brownie. Or, spice things up at an H&H “Tamale and Sangria Party.”

Visit Cos Bar at Market Street for a mini makeover. The make-up professionals will show you the latest products from Bobby Brown, Sisley and YSL and how to apply them for the perfect look.

When the group is glammed up and ready to go, take our complimentary shuttle to Town Center. Américas and Jasper’s offer private dining rooms if you want to shower the bachelorette with saucy intimates from Touché. Or, secure a spot on the Luca & Leonardo balcony overlooking the Fountains at Waterway Square and toast her with hand-crafted cocktails.

Burn off those dinner calories with lively music at 1252 Tapas or Crush. At Crush, a DJ spins tunes on the rooftop lounge which offers panoramic view of the waterway.

After a peaceful night's sleep, visit The Spa for a few hours of pampering.  There is plenty of room for the group to gather in between treatments. Or, detox from the previous night with time in the dry sauna and eucalyptus steam room.  If the sun is shining, grab a lounger for a bit of relaxation by the pool.

The Woodlands is a great destination for classy fun

where you don't have to walk far to see and be seen.
